Who: Twins Sherry Mitchell, 50, of Germantown and Gerry Wartenberg of Cordova, both teach business technology at West Memphis High School.
Issues: They stood in line for two hours at "Extreme Makeover" auditions in Memphis just to get advice on what they needed to do.
Hair fix: Blond hair may be fun, but it's not always flattering. Mitchell's pale color washed her out, said Ted Cortese of diVa Colour Studio in East Memphis. He changed it to warm dark blonde with carmel pieces , cut slight bangs to draw attention to her eyes and trimmed length to show off more of her face.
Wartenberg's choppy chunks, too busy for her age, were exchanged for a reddish-brown with auburn low lights. A dry cut method was used to create a layered style that took attention away from her chin and back up her eyes.
Beauty fix: Alyssa Kuykendall, makeup artist for diVa Colour Studio, used Arbonne's About Face makeup for Mitchell, including 10N mineral powder and Excite blush, and Meringue shadow all over the lid to bring forward her deep-set eyes. Graphite was used in the crease and medium brown shadow for the brow and lash lines. her lips were lined with Cola and colored with Decadent.
Wartenberg's slightly fairer skin tone needed Arbonne's 2W mineral powder, and a combination of Foxy and Forbidden blush for cheeks. Kuykendall used Pamela John Cosmetics Lemon Ice for the lid, Bold for the mid-range lid area, and Lizard for the crease to bring out the green in her eyes. Lizard shadow was also used for the eye liner. Her lips were done with Arbonne's Nice lip liner and Crazed lip stick.
Fashion fix: To help them look stylish without looking like their students, Carolyn Bendall, image consultant with Fashion Academy, took the twins to What's Hot in Germantown and looked for earth tones, rich browns, brick reds, and teal to aqua complement their Warm Tawny skin tones. A casual look for Mitchell was created with trouser-cut shiny jeans and sleeveless cream sweater by Nic & Zoe, and , for modesty, a taupe half-tube top by Lounge Wish Collection. Brighton accessories included a brown rope with smoky pendant, silver and gold bangles and a wood and silver bracelet and shoulder bag. Faux reptile Camel shoes wee by Not Rated.
Score card: "I loved feeling like a star for the day!" said Mitchell. "Why did I wait so long to get a makeover!" Wartenberg said "I love my new color and cut. I'm even excited about school starting."
The twins received a $50 gift certificate each from What's Hot. Fashion Academy gave them Arbonne lipsticks and diVa Colour Studio gave them Minardi Shampoo and Conditioner.
Insider info: Women with warm, tawny skin have almost even amounts of red and yellow tones and hair should go no blo9nder than dark blond (almost auburn). |
